A clearer answer to “is the move worth it?”

RelocationMath is an independent publishing and software project focused on one practical financial decision: comparing life after two job offers.

What we're building

Traditional salary comparisons focus on a gross number. Cost-of-living tables give a broad average. We bring the user's own offer, expected housing cost, tax assumption, recurring budget and up-front moving cost together in one editable, shareable model.

Where the information comes from

The site offers separately labelled published occupation medians sourced from the open US Wage Atlas (BLS OEWS and BEA RPP), with attribution, and an optional HUD Fair Market Rent lookup when the official file is available and verified. All other planning inputs come from visitors. Neither government nor upstream data publisher endorses this website.

Advertising and editorial independence

Our tools are free and may be funded by display advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertising cannot change the result of a calculation or the relative display of public data. We do not sell paid 'best cities' rankings, and no advertiser can pay to alter the formulas.

Accuracy, questions and corrections

We show the formula, the source period and the uncertainty. We do not claim to calculate exact federal or state taxes, individual job offers, apartment listings or future prices. If you find an error, send the URL, a description and the relevant official source to contact@relocationmath.com. We review corrections against primary data. This is a planning aid, not licensed financial advice.

Make the decision with your own numbers.

Published benchmarks are context; your offer letter, real rent quote and actual bills should drive your decision.
